Mighty Mukuru Wanderers endured a weekend of mixed fortunes on the international transfer market after defender Lawrence Chaziya failed to complete his move to TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo while striker Christopher Kumwembe joined a Zambian outfit.
Chaziya was the subject of a K45 million deal but the move has fallen through, with compatriots and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets duo of Patrick Mwaungulu and Lanjesi Nkhoma set to be offered contracts.
TP Mazembe’s Malawian representative Felix Ngamanya Sapao said the club has notified Wanderers about the development.
“However, the letter has been addressed to Wanderers; so, I cannot comment further than this,” Sapao said.
Chaziya was unavailable to comment but he indirectly confirmed on his official Facebook page.
“It is true I am coming home. Thank you so much God,” the Flames towering centre back wrote.
Meanwhile, Wanderers have loaned out Kumwembe to Eagles on a year-long deal valued at K27 million, Times Sport can reveal.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Panganeni Ndovi declined to disclose the transfer fee but confirmed that the Nomads were looking for a replacement.
“We are on the market looking for Kumwembe’s replacement but I cannot disclose which players we are targeting. We have a number of players we want to sign following the departure of our striker,” Ndovi said.
Kumwembe promised to work hard to impress and fight to get a permanent deal at the Zambian club.
“I have always been a warrior. I always work to win. I thank God for this opportunity and I promise all my fans that I will represent them well,” Kumwembe said.
Kumwembe has scored six league goals for Wanderers.
Last year, he scored 13 goals in all competitions for the blue and white camp.
The former Civil Service United player is set to receive a salary of K2.7 million a month.
He joined Wanderers from Civil last year.
Meanwhile, Wanderers have pipped rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers after signing striker Promise Kamwendo from Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos on a three-year deal.
Kamwendo was linked with Bullets after he reportedly agreed personal terms with Bullets but the player went missing yesterday before completing the deal with the Nomads in the evening.
