FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have opted for legal redress after rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers secured the signature of striker Promise Kamwendo from Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos.
Kamwendo completed a three-year deal with Wanderers on Monday evening, after he had earlier agreed on personal terms with Bullets.
However, there was confusion as Kamwendo could not be reached before Wanderers unveiled him.
Bullets’ Acting Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga confirmed that the People’s Team were taking action regarding Kamwendo’s transfer to Wanderers but declined to provide further details.
“We are pursuing a case. It is too early to disclose details before making submissions to the relevant authorities,” Chigoga said.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Panganeni Ndovi had yet to respond to our questionnaire as we went to press.
Meanwhile, Super League of Malawi Vice General Secretary Donnex Chilonga said they will comment upon receiving an official complaint.
“We will pick it up from there and make appropriate comments,” Chilonga said.
In 2021, Bullets were ordered to pay K3.5 million after signing and unveiling then Wanderers forward Babatunde Adepoju a day before his contract with the Nomads expired.
According to Fifa transfer statutes, a player with an ongoing contract is the property of his club, which can opt to sell him to any team without his consent.
Additionally, the statutes state that a football club cannot sell one player to two different teams within the same transfer window and a club cannot unveil a contracted player before concluding business with his parent club.
