Nam wants corporate sport festival support

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has asked well-wishers to support its corporate sports festival scheduled for Blantyre Youth Centre Saturday.

Nam has organised the festival to fundraise for senior and under-21 national team assignments.

Some of the initiative’s proceeds will also be channelled towards Nam operations.

The association intends to raise K50 million from the event, which will feature activities such as netball, basketball, volleyball and football.

Lumbani Mtonyo

Nam Vice President Lumbani Mtonyo said they have organised the event to support government efforts in ensuring the best preparations for senior and junior national teams with a small percentage going towards Nam’s secretariat.

“We would like to ask all fans and corporate employees to come in huge numbers to support their teams and have fun. We expect it to be a successful event.

“We would also like to thank companies that have registered their teams in support of our fundraising drive. We are assuring them that all amounts received through registrations and general sponsorship will be fully accounted for,” Mtonyo said.

She said they expect massive support from all sectors owing to the fact that netball has put Malawi on the map on several occasions.

“Our national teams have been performing well in major events for many years and we expect various sectors to come forward and show their appreciation. Netball is the number one performing sports discipline in the country when you consider our ranking in comparison to other games locally.

“This achievement should make us proud as a nation. Everyone should therefore come forward and support this effort as we count down towards the various commitments that our two teams have. We must support these performing teams as they are the pride of the nation,” Mtonyo said.

Former netballer Neffie Kam’mata said Nam should be on top of its game if it is to woo corporate support.

“The association should be perfect and without any blemish if it is to earn the trust of everyone. There should be no loopholes in its dealings. Its officials should know that the nation is watching all their steps. They must ensure that every tambala is accounted for if they are to win the trust of all stakeholders,” Kam’mata said.
