Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Football Club is set to hold an in-house gala to reward outstanding players and officials to celebrate the team’s 2024 season.
Wanderers won the Castel Challenge Cup after narrowly edging out Mzuzu City Hammers 1-0, thanks to Sama Thierry Tanjong’s second-half strike.
The Lali Lubani side finished second in the league behind champions Silver Strikers.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Panganeni Ndovi said it was important to celebrate the feat, after the club proved that it was heading in the right direction.
“We are excited to announce that we will hold an in-house gala on 31 [December] to celebrate the year’s achievements with our players, technical panel and platinum supporters.
“This event is a special opportunity to honour the team’s efforts and recognise their success in bringing home the trophy. It is important that we celebrate this milestone and show our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of everyone involved,” Ndovi said.
The Wanderers CEO said winning the cup and finishing second in the league had given them a boost in their quest to reclaim glory.
“We remain steadfast in our belief that ‘Making Mighty Mighty Again’ is a process. We are proud of the progress we are making and are confident that we are on the right path to achieving our dream.
“Mighty Wanderers is not just a name; it is a legacy, and we are fully committed to restoring its greatness step by step. Mighty will, indeed, be Mighty again,” Ndovi said.
Full details regarding the in-house gala would be released later.
Wanderers National Cheerleader Yona ‘Green’ Malunga commended the team’s leadership for organising the gala.
“This way, they will keep the team recharged ahead of next season,” Malunga said.
In the 2023 season, Wanderers finished empty-handed after surrendering the Airtel Top 8 cup.
That season, they finished on third position in the league.
