A first-round wrap-up in numbers..

A first-round wrap-up in numbers..

On Sunday, Silver Strikers finished off the first round of the 2024 TNM Super League with a goalless draw against Moyale Barracks.

The point gained at Mzuzu Stadium meant the Central Bankers finished top of the table with 37 points. This was also a confirmation that the Central Bankers are the only side yet to face defeat in the first 15 matches played this far.

The Area 47 outfit has beaten their last season’s record of 30 points at the lapse of the first round when they finished in second position with eight wins, six draws, and a single loss. This season, out of the 15, the Bankers have won 11 and drew four times.

The league leaders boast of being the high-scoring side with 34 goals scored with Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Kamuzu Barracks coming second after scoring 20 goals each. On the defending end, Silver Strikers has proved to be one of the best defensive sides as they have only conceded nine goals.

Silver Stadium has also proved to be a danger zone as by the end of the first round, the Sky blue and white lads have enjoyed a 100 percent win record for all the home matches.  As that is not enough, the defense at home has been superb as the team has only conceded four goals out of the nine.

24 points have been collected on home soil with 13 points banged away from home after registering 3 wins and four draws on the road.

Our highest score margin has been 5 goals scored at home against Mafco FC and Mzuzu City Hammers and our lowest margin at home was a 1-0 win against FOMO FC.

Our boys have not been so lethal away as they have only scored eight goals on the road compared to the 24 scored at home.

We have had to come from behind twice to secure a point against Kamuzu Barracks and Dedza Dynamos in games that ended 2 all and 1 all respectively.

Midfielder Uchizi Vunga and right-back McDonald Lameck were the ones to score the fastest goals for Silver Strikers as both found the back of the net in five minutes. Vunga scored his goal against Karonga United while Lameck did the same against Mzuzu City Hammers. Midfield maestro Chimwemwe Idana is this far the one to have scored very late into a match for the Area 47 outfit as he registered his name on the score sheet at 96 minutes against Karonga United.

Despite being the ones with the fastest goals for the Bankers, Vunga, and Lameck also share a unique fact as being the only players with the highest goal assists in the league. They both have five.

We cannot pen off our first-round wrap without the mention of our goalkeeper who tops the tally of the most clean sheets. George Chikooka has this far nine clean sheets, the highest among all shotstoppers this far.

Numbers don’t lie, this is how the Central Bankers have rounded off the first half of the 2024 TNM Super League season. Looking forward to the last part of the season.
