Promise Kamwendo rejects Dedza Dynamos’s new contract

Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos forward Promise Kamwendo has alerted possible suitors when he rejected a contract extension offer.

Kamwendo, who was a subject of failed transfer to Mighty Mukuru Wanderers during the midseason transfer window, has opted to leave the club as a free agent when his contract expires on December 31 this year.

The 23-year-forward reportedly agreed personal terms with Dedza last month only to change his mind leaving Dynamos hierarchy guessing.

Dynamos Chief Executive Officer Frella Kulemelo confirmed the development saying their efforts to extend Kamwendo’s stay did not yield positive results.

“We tried our best as a team but he has opted against staying,” Kulemelo said.

He said the club had learnt a bitter lesson.

“We have learnt one or two things here. Players must be tied down to new contracts with already two years left otherwise. We are losing him for free in January,” Kulemelo said.

Kamwendo has heavily been linked with the Nomads but he refused on the latest developments.

Meanwhile, Wanderers say they will weigh the matter whether it is necessary to re-engage the player.

The teams’ chief executive officer Panganeni Ndovi said their focus was on the current squad.

“At this stage of the season, it would be premature to comment on any player who is currently contracted to another team. Our focus remains on our squad and the tasks ahead.

“While we acknowledge the talents of many players in the league, it is important to respect the processes and boundaries in place regarding transfers and contracts,” Ndovi said.

However, Silver Strikers who were the first team to express interest in the forward before FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Wanderers joined the race for Kamwendo’s signature, have not ruled out a second approach for the much sought after forward.

Silver Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba said his office is ready to support any signing that the technical panel wants.

“Actually, we were the first team to express our interest but Dedza officials were not forthcoming. If our technical team feels that we still need him, we will approach the player. We always believe in giving the technical team the right tools,” Chimimba said.

Following Bullets’ complaint, Fam Player Status Committee released a determination indicating that Kamwendo was still contracted to Dynamos and ordered for his immediate return to his club in September.

According to the determination, the committee ordered Dynamos to refund Bullets K3 million and Wanderers K4 million within 14 clear days. Dynamos were fined K3 million for the transfer mess.

Fam Player Status Committee also ordered Kamwendo to refund K6 million to Wanderers.
