Silver Strikers earned a point on Sunday against Kamuzu Barracks to stretch the lead on top of the 2024 TNM Super League log table to 30 points.
The point, gives the Central Bankers a 9 point lead and kept the unbeaten run going as the Area 47 side had to come from behind through substitute Stanie Davie and Midfielder Chimwemwe Idana.
The Chioko based soldiers made their intentions known early into the match as at 20 and 23 minutes they scored goals through Gregory Nachipo and Hope Namadzunda respectively.
The hosts took the lead to half time. During recess, coach Peter Mponda took out Duncan Nyoni and Mark Fodya then introduced Stanie Davie and Atusaye Nyondo.
The Central Bankers were a changed side come second half as from the start of the last 45 minutes they piled pressure and it was by no surprise that three minutes into the second half Davie headed home a cross from Zebron Kalima.
After conceding this goal, the hosts tried some delaying tactics that couldn’t shake off the zeal from Silver Strikers players. At 71 minutes, another double substitution was made that saw Chinsisi Maonga and Chikondi Kamanga paving way for Chisomo Mpachika and Patrick Macheso.
Seven minutes from time, Davie picked out Idana from outside the box for him to curl in a beauty that levelled the scores.
The Central Bankers kept on piling pressure for a third goal but time did not allow this to happen.
After the final whistle, the gaffer said it was a difficult game as the two quick goals from Kamuzu Barracks disrupted his game plan but praised the boys for their fighting spirit.
“The boys today have shown a good character of denying to drop all three points, the fighting spirit that the boys showed today is very impressive. We have gained a point today with a very good fighting spirit but with what i have seen today it will be very easy for me as a coach to push them for better performances ahead. These boys need a pat on the back”, said Mponda.
Next, Silver Strikers will face Mzuzu City Hammers at Silver Stadium on Thursday.
