Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Yada Football Club owner Prophet Walter Magaya has unveiled plans to construct Heart Stadium 3 in Lilongwe.
This comes days after Magaya commissioned the Heart Stadium 2 project in Maputo, Mozambique.
According to Zimbabwe’s leading newspaper The Herald, Heart Stadium 3 will be built at Chipala Community Ground in Ngomani Village, Lilongwe.
“Tuesday’s event was graced by Chief Gomani, Lilongwe Mayor Esther Sagawa and some high government officials. Magaya said Malawian officials had approached him for assistance and they also speeded up the paper-work process,’’ The Herald writes.
Magaya has already built Heart Stadium 1 at Water Falls in Harare, Zimbabwe, making it the home of Yada, which signed Warriors and former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs winger Khama Biliati.
Reports are rife in Zimbabwe that Magaya is reportedly vying for the Zifa presidency in elections scheduled to take place this year.
Magaya has been in sport for a long time.
“I have always given to sport for the past 16 years. I was part of the Gunners admin 15 years ago when they lifted the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League title.
“So this is a continuation of what I have been doing all along. After the Malawi trip, our focus will be on the first edition of the Magaya tournament, targeting grassroots football and netball,” he is quoted as saying in The Herald newspaper.
Sagawa confirmed meeting Magaya on the issue of the project.
“We had a lengthy discussion on the issue but I will be able to give you more details later,” Sagawa said.
Apart from building Heart Stadium in Harare, Magaya is planning to renovate Chibuku and Gwanzura stadia in his native Zimbabwe.
