Barely a month after helping top Silver Strikers forward Adiel Kaduya secure a scholarship in the United States of America, AfriSportsConnect has disclosed plans to empower African athletes.
The development comes after AfriSportsConnect, a pioneering sports-centred organisation founded by United States-based Malawian entrepreneur Humphrey Mahowa, recently launched its operations in Malawi.
Mahowa said the organisation aims at addressing longstanding barriers hindering the success of African athletes by providing them with essential resources and opportunities.
He said the sports landscape in Africa faces significant challenges, including limited exposure and resources, which hinder the growth of potential talent.
“Recognising these challenges, AfriSportsConnect seeks to bridge the gap by identifying and nurturing untapped athletic potential across the continent.
“AfriSportsConnect was established to break barriers that hinder African athletes from accessing global opportunities and achieving sustainable athletic careers. We aim at providing crucial representation, guidance and exposure essential for their success,” Mahowa said.
He said one of the key components of AfriSportsConnect’s initiatives is the Athletic Readiness Programme currently underway in Malawi.
“This programme prepares aspiring athletes to compete at international levels by nurturing their skills and enhancing their exposure to global athletic opportunities.
“Additionally, the organisation is implementing an Academic Readiness Programme which facilitates student-athletes’ transitions to international universities, ensuring they are well-prepared for both academic and athletic pursuits,” Mahowa said.
Highlighting the impact of the initiative, Kaduya has successfully completed AfriSportsConnect’s Academic Readiness Programme and is scheduled to further his education and athletic career in the United States at a university in Los Angeles.
Kaduya hailed the organisation for brokering his deal.
“I was spotted last year by Humphrey Mahowa and I complied with all of the organisation’s requirements for the deal to materialise. I am now in the United States pursuing my dream,” Kaduya said.
AfriSportsConnect started its operations in Malawi on June 30, marking a significant step towards empowering African athletes and fostering a sustainable sports ecosystem across the continent.
