Malawi Beach Soccer National Team suffered a late blow as Mozambique struck late to win 4-3 in a Group B match of the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations finals at the Burgada Beach Soccer Arena in Egypt.
Malawi thought they had done enough to secure a point but Mozambique scored with the last kick of the match to hand Malawi a losing start.
Influential Sandram Sadi scored a brace for Malawi while captain Isaac Kajamu scored once.
Action will continue today with Malawi taking on defending champions and six-time champions Senegal today.
Senegal are smarting from defeat after they lost 5-3 to Mauritania.
Meanwhile, Malawi Coach Willy Kumilambe has said they expected Mozambique’s goal to be ruled out since the rules stipulated that a goal scored after the final whistle does not count.
“The rules are clear that a goal does not count after the final whistle. We will not cry over spilt milk but we will focus on our next assignment, which promises to be tougher,” Kumilambe said.
