Silver Strikers, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in tricky away ties

Silver Strikers and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers face tricky opponents as they aim to keep the pace in the TNM Super League title race this afternoon.

Straight from their 2-0 victory over Mighty Tigers at home, Silver face Chitipa United at Karonga Ground.

On the other hand, Wanderers are on the road for their second consecutive fixture in Lilongwe, where they meet Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium.

Although it is too early to call, any slipup in today’s match for either Silver or Wanderers would have an impact on the title race.

Silver are on top of the tree with an eight-point cushion over Wanderers in the championship race.

The Central Bankers have 43 points from 17 matches whereas Wanderers have 35 points from 18 matches.

Despite the eight-point cushion, Silver Coach Peter Mponda warned his charges to guard against complacency.

“We need to keep winning matches so that we increase our chances of winning the title,” Mponda said.

Silver beat Chitipa 2-0 in the opening match of the season at Silver Stadium.

For Silver, they have been consistent and are the only unbeaten side in the league.

Meanwhile, Wanderers will be looking to exorcise the demons that have haunted them against KB in away matches.

They have failed to win in five consecutive away matches against KB in the league.

Wanderers last beat KB 1-0 in an away fixture in 2019.

Last season, KB beat Wanderers 1-0 at Kasungu Stadium.

The two teams shared the spoils following a 1-1 stalemate at Kamuzu Stadium in April this year.

Wanderers Coach Meke Mwase admitted that playing KB is one of the toughest assignments.

“We expect a very difficult match but our approach will be to win it,” Mwase said.

On his part, KB Coach Charles Kamanga said history would repeat itself against Wanderers.

“It will be tough but we are prepared for them,” he said.

KB are fifth with 28 points from 18 matches. They beat Baka City 4-0 on Sunday.
