Chimwemwe Madise basks in Caf Women’s Champions League glory

Malawi Women’s National Football Team defender Chimwemwe Madise has made history as the first Malawian to win the Caf Women’s Champions League.

This comes after her club TP Mazembe Women clinched the 2024 Caf Women’s Champions League title following a 1-0 victory over AS Far Rabat on Saturday.

Madise, popularly known as ‘Bulldozer’, laid her hands on the converted trophy.

In an interview from Morocco, Madise said she was excited with the achievement.

“It is a dream come true for me to win the Caf Women’s Champions League. I did not expect it,” Madise, who was a key figure for the Scorchers as they won the 2023 Cosafa Women’s Championship, said.

Apart from Madise, Mazembe have Scorchers striker Sabina Thom but she did not travel with the team to Morocco due to visa hitches.

Her visa was not processed as she took part in the 2024 Cosafa Women’s Championship.

Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya, who watched the Caf Women’s Champions League final in Morocco, was also proud of Madise’s exploits.

“Africa truly shines with incredible talent and we are especially proud of our very own Chimwemwe Madise, who is part of TP Mazembe’s squad,” Haiya wrote on his Facebook page.
