Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) President Vitumbiko Gubuduza has said she expects Malawi National Netball Team to perform well against South Africa in the opening match of the Spar Challenge International Test Series.
The two teams get started at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg at 6pm.
Gubuduza said the team has received the support it needed and it is time for the players to challenge the nation that they deserve more.
“We expect a great performance from the team after it received all the support needed for thorough preparations leading up to the Test Series. I believe the team is ready and we look forward to seeing them giving out their best.
“The test series will also give us the opportunity to see how the new players have settled into the team alongside the experienced ones,” she said.
Coach Joana Kachilika said they had ample time in camp in preparation for the series.
“We are rebuilding the team with both experienced players and youthful players. We expect our players to blend and give out a good performance. This is the only way we can say thank you to those that gave us support,” Kachilika said.
South Africa are ranked fifth globally, with Malawi coming seventh.
Malawi had an intensive three-week training camp in Lilongwe before relocating to Blantyre.
After today’s match, Malawi and South Africa will meet again on Saturday and Sunday at the same venue.
