Malawi Under-19 Women’s National Cricket Team endured a bad start to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Division One Qualifiers when they went down to Zimbabwe by 144-runs on Sunday in Kigali, Rwanda.
According to ICC Africa Facebook page, Malawi were dismissed with seven overs to spare as unstoppable Zimbabwe convincingly cruised to 195/2 in 20 overs in the first innings.
Malawi’s wicket-keeper Mercy Kudimba contributed 21 runs off 37 balls but her compatriots failed to reach double figures.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe’s all-rounder Beloved Biza was a menace to Malawi, supplying 86 runs off 57 balls.
As we went to press, Malawi was expected to face Tanzania.
Meanwhile, Malawi Team Manager Bronwell Williams has conceded defeat while promising to bounce back.
“We really gave our opponents too much respect. All the same, we hope for good results in our next matches,” he said.
Malawi Under-19 Women’s side earned qualification in emphatic style after winning Division Two qualifiers to get promoted to Division One.
The side won the Division Two championship with a perfect record, having won all six matches.
