President, board to decide Bob Mpinganjira’s future

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers interim coach Bob Mpinganjira will have to wait a bit longer to know if he would be given a permanent job at the Lali Lubani Road side.

Bob has led Wanderers to Castel Challenge Cup glory after the Nomads defeated Mzuzu City Hammers 1-0 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.

The win was a timely relief to the Nomads family, who faced the risk of finishing a second successive season without silverware.

Wanderers Board Secretary Chancy Gondwe said the club’s president Thom Mpinganjira and board would determine the coach’s fate.

He was quick to say there was no need to rush as this is time for celebrations.

“The president and the board will decide. This is time for celebrations. Let Bob and his team enjoy this moment. This is time for the Nomads family to come together and enjoy this moment,” Gondwe said.

Meanwhile, Wanderers Head of Recruitment and Technical Tiya Somba Banda has said they would base their recommendations on the team’s performance in the just-ended season.

“The board will review the season and pick it from there,” he said.

Bob, a former Wanderers striker, replaced Meck Mwase, who resigned after the team exited the 2024 Airtel Top 8 competition following a 1-0 semifinal loss to Silver Strikers in November.

Bob, in acting capacity, led Wanderers to Castel Challenge Cup glory and a second place finish in the TNM Super League.

Local football analyst Roy Abramo M’dechi advised Wanderers board to establish factors that led Mwase and Ramadhan to throw in the towel before naming a permanent coach.

“Wanderers might have won the cup and finished second in the league behind Silver but they need to analyse their house to determine why Mark Harrison, Ramadhan and Meck [Mwase] left the club,” M’dechi said.
