Malawi Women’s National Football Team Coach Lovemore Fazili is hoping for an improved display when his charges date Madagascar as they continue with their Cosafa Women’s Championship title defence in South Africa this afternoon.
The Scorchers are smarting from a disappointing start in which they drew with Botswana 1-1 in a Group B match.
Madagascar are a changed side having thrashed Mauritius 5-1 in the other match.
Fazili has promised to make changes following the arrival of Democratic Republic of Congo-based forward Sabina Thom.
“The team is well prepared and we have tackled almost every department. We are hoping for better and positive results and we should also score more goals,” Fazili said.
The coach refused to underrate Madagascar.
“We are not underrating Madagascar. Last year, we won 3-1 when we faced them but the game was very tough. So we cannot underrate them,” Fazili said.
Despite the absence of the seven key players, the Scorchers have plenty of quality, with the likes of Letticia Chinyamula, Carolyne Mathyola, Funny Magombo, Asimenye Simwaka, Pilirani Malora, Vannesa Chikupila, Mary Chavinda and Sabina Thom ready to strut their stuff.
The Scorchers won their first Cosafa Women’s Championship after beating Zambia 2-1 at Lucas Moripe Stadium last year.
