Head Coach Peter Mponda says Saturday’s final match against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the 2024 Airtel Top 8 is an opportunity for his side to set the record straight by winning it.
Silver Strikers lost to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets last year in the Castel Challenge Cup at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. The last time the two sides met in the Airtel Top 8 in 2021, the bankers went down 5-4 on post match penalties.
Mponda said his side has worked so hard to get to the final and there is a need to make the effort count by winning the tournament.
“We are very ready for this big game. Last season it didn’t go well for us. I think this is the time to fix the record as we have got a very good squad and It’s now up to the boys to start believing that they can do it. This far we have scored more goals and conceded two our opponents they have scored only four whilst conceding non, these numbers tell us that they are good at the front therefore we have to find means to penetrate them”, said Mponda.
Both Silver Strikers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have won the Airtel Top 8 twice since its inception in 2017.
To get to the final, Silver Strikers beat Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 1-0 whilst FCB Nyasa Big Bullets won 2-0 against Kamuzu Barracks.
