FDH Bank Cup lives up to its billing- Sponsors

FDH Bank Cup sponsors have lauded the 2024 edition of the competition for living up to its competitive nature after four teams booked semifinals slots.

The semifinals line-up has been completed after FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Moyale Barracks, Blue Eagles and Karonga United progressed.

MPHATSO—We are excited

FDH Bank Senior Manager, Personal and Business Banking, Chikhulupiliro Mphatso, said the cup’s trademark has been maintained following outstanding performances from teams.

“Firstly, congratulations to Bullets, Moyale, Blue Eagles, and Karonga United for making it to the semi-finals. The tournament has been very exciting so far and, most profoundly, the FDH Cup has just proven that there is no small team in cup football. As you noted yesterday [Sunday], the games were very competitive,” Mphatso said.

Mphatso said the dramatic nature of the competition has been maintained after some giants were booted out.

“Further, you have also noted that, this far, the tournament has lived up to its billing and still has some teams from lower divisions when some of the football giants have already been kicked out. This is a clear indicator that the game of football is improving in Malawi.

“We, as sponsors, are also very excited with the discipline shown. We are also happy that as a bank with the largest footprint and one that is serving Malawians from all walks of life, we have strong teams fighting for the cup,” he said.

The remarks come after holders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets sweated to beat Civil Service United 1-0 to set up a semifinal tie against Moyale Barracks, who sailed through after overcoming second-tier side Lube Masters 2-1.

In another semifinal match, Premier Division side Blue Eagles will date Karonga United.

Eagles trounced Super League side Baka City 3-0 while Karonga booted out Mafco 2-1.

Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi Competitions and Communications Director Gomezgani Zakazaka has said dates and venues for semi-finals and the final would be communicated later.

“We have to put all logistics in place,” Zakazaka said.
