Salima Sugar unveils K80 million sponsorship

Salima Sugar Company Thursday unveiled a K80 million sponsorship for the country’s National Netball League.

The package is an increase from last year’s K40 million.

The company’s executive chairperson Webster Peter Kosamu said they are excited to be part of netball’s growth.

“We are proud to be associated with the growth of netball in Malawi. We increased the sponsorship package to mark our success as a company and we want netball to join us in this celebratory mood. Our business is doing well and we are able to see good things in the future,” Kosamu said.

He said the company gets inspired by women’s and young girls’ passion for the game.

“The passion has also contributed towards our decision to invest more in netball so that we help to promote and grow it. We, being a Malawian company, know that there is no woman in the kitchen without sugar. So we know we are putting our support in the right place,” Kosamu said.

Vitumbiko Gubuduza

Netball Association of Malawi President Vitumbiko Gubuduza hailed the company for the sponsorship, describing it as timely.

“With this sponsorship, we will have a wide pool of talent to pick from as we build teams to represent the country at all levels. This means we are on the right track as far as development of the game is concerned. The way forward after getting such support is that we will ensure transparency and accountability for the resources provided,” Gubuduza said.

The hike comes after some teams complained about what they received in the inaugural event held last year.

Lilongwe-based Blue Eagles Sisters won the inaugural edition after beating their reserve side.

Eagles Sisters got K2 million whereas their juniors pocketed K1.7 million.
