Silver Strikers are scoring on-and-off the pitch as gate revenue from their matches has significantly improved this season.
According to details from Silver secretariat, so far, the club has generated K30.9 million as gate revenue from the 13 matches played in the first round.
At the same stage last year, the Bankers had generated K18.6 million from the matches.
This means Silver has generated K12.3 million more than last year at the same stage.
The Bankers are just K6.1 million from beating last year’s total gate revenue from the 30 matches. According to Super League of Malawi (Sulom) gate revenue report for the 2023 season, Silver generated a total of K37.1 million the entire season.
Defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets got the highest gate revenue cut of K89.2 million followed by their arch-rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who got K65.6 million the entire 2023 season.
Silver Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba attributed the rise in gate revenue to improved team performance and strict gate management strategy.
“We have intensified our marketing strategy this season. The pre-sale and town storming has helped us a lot. But above all, is the performance of the team. The fans are watching our matches in large numbers because the team is doing well,” Chimimba said.
The match between Silver and Wanderers at Silver Stadium grossed K33.5 million in gate revenue in May which the hosts won 2-0.
Then, Chimimba said the figure is an all-time record at the Area 47 venue.
However, due to gate sharing system, each team got K7 million from the match, with the remainder shared amongst other stakeholders including Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and Football Association of Malawi (Fam).
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said the match revenue for Silver has improved due to performance this season.
“The fans want to be associated with the winning team. Success has many fathers. I am not surprised that Silver have generated a lot of money from their matches,” he said.
Silver are at the summit of the table with 33 points from 13 matches, nine points above Wanderers. The Blantyre derby between Bullets and Wanderers on May 2024, generated K80.4 million-the record revenue so far in domestic football.
TNM Super League realised K916 million in gate revenue last season whereas K587 million was generated in 2022.
