Spoils shared at Mzuzu Stadium

Silver Strikers has rounded off the first round of the 2024 TNM Super league with a stalemate against Moyale Barracks on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium.

With the draw, the Bankers have finished off the first round as the only side to taste defeat this far.

The first half of the match did not live up to its billing as the game was characterised by heavy tackles that made the Bankers fail to display their usual style of play.

Twenty five minutes into the match, head coach Peter Mponda made his first substitution as he took out Uchizi Vunga for Patrick Macheso. The change paid dividends as the Bankers started controlling possession in midfield.

However, this did not change the margins at recess as it was still goaless

At Halftime, Duncan Nyoni, Zebron Kalima and Stanie Davie were withdrawn for Charles Chipala, Binwell Katinji and Chinsisi Maonga.

The changes at halftime added stamina to the team as Silver Strikers started piling pressure to the hosts.

At 71 minutes, Katinji combined well with Macheso but Macheso’s effort went over the bar.

Nine minutes later, Chipala could have scored a goal of the season contender as he orchestrated a bicycle kick that was well taken care of by Moyale Barracks’ goalie.

The match went over regulation time goalless.

Coach Mponda described the result as being fair.

“Playing a goalless match against Moyale at their home feels like a fair result i think on a balance of play it was a 50-50 affair. We couldn’t ask for more in this match i think we return to Lilongwe satisfied”, he said.

We kick start our second round with an away fixture in Karonga against Karonga United on 10 August.
